  • Loved the idea of boats being the ultimate container…especiall if made with encaustic I guess. Then again, all the workshops are in the west…leaving us easterners out of the loop.

Glad to see you’re on this bandwagon of Encaustic painting..such a wonderful and diverse age old technique coming around again.

Love your boat containers. They really could hold a variety of things.
I , too, like Carole above me request the same thing, “What about us East Coast gals and guys??” I would love to attend a workshop in my area.
Not sure where everyone is from, but I am from So Florida, and would appreciate a class in this area.

I have scads of paste paper that I have made (when I am in a stuck place, this is my go-to activity) How does it work as a substrate for encaustics (like the boats)?

      Hi Marilyn
It depends what your pastepaper is made of. In general, encaustic and acrylic are not compatible. Wax likes absorbamt paper and surfaces. But my two favorite words are “Try it.”
      All the best,
      Daniella

I am new to encaustic painting and still unsure of some of the lingo, techniques etc. What is the purpose of the “boats” are they made of newsprint to hold the hot wax colors? Thanks in advance!

The boats are the ultimate mixed media container. They are totally versatile and so much fun. Try one! You might get hooked.

  • I am a painter and your work has introduced a complete new world to me. I have been searching for a way to incorporate memory, cherished ephemera etc. into my art and encaustic has so many possibilities. I see the boats not only as containers but a very feminine personal form that is allowing the world a glimse at an inner soul. Thankyou for sharing.
